Football Is Not About Scoring Goals And Assists -Otto Addo Schools Paintsil On Squad Call Up

Joseph Paintsil, a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Belgian Club says he is relieved that Otto Addo has stepped down as Ghana’s head coach.

The 24-year-old feels Borussia Dortmund’s assistant coach acted unfairly when he left him out of the 26-Man Squad submitted to FIFA before the 2022 World Cup

Paintsil was one of Ghana’s most promising players in Europe, but he was left out of the squad, which has generated some criticism.

Paintsil reportedly told Belgian newspaper Belang van Limburg that the Black Stars coach’s decision was unfair.”

“He didn’t give me a good excuse for my absence. I spoke to him on the phone and said the same thing. He informed me that there were players above me in the hierarchy…….”Among them were men like me who played in the Jupiler Pro League. Even though his statistics differed, Addo claimed that football is not only about goals and assists”…… Paintsil stated to the Belgian press.

The Genk forward has been involved in 9 goals in the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League after 14 appearances.

The Ghanaian player also expressed his enthusiasm to play for the senior national team of Ghana.

While leaving he remarked, “I am happy about it. They didn’t give me a chance to showcase myself to the world during the World Cup. I am currently eagerly waiting for the announcement of the next national coach.”

Joseph Paintsil hit an extra-time winner to help Genk progress to the quarterfinal of the Belgian Cup last Wednesday and dedicated the goal to his late father, whom he recently entombed.
