Local Players Lack The Mentality To Play Black Stars – Great Olympic’s Godwin Attram On Black Stars Selection

Former Black Stars player Godwin Attram has compared the current Black Stars team to previous setups and has stated that the team Ghana parades today is not competitive.

The Black Stars participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and placed bottom in Group H. Ghana beat South Korea and claimed defeats against Portugal and Uruguay. Earlier in the year 2022 Ghana exited the 33rd Afcon tournament in Cameroon. This was Ghana’s worse performance at the prestigious tournament.

According to the former Great Olympic player, locally based Ghanaians do not have a strong mentality depriving them of call-ups during the selection to the senior national team.

“Big difference very big it is not competitive now because we call all the players from Europe the local players here they are the ones giving themselves the problem. Because in football if you are on the pitch playing everybody sees you,” he told Ernest Brew Smith TV on Youtube.

“Sometimes fans will say we didn’t do this for this player or that player but nobody will do it for you unless you do it yourself. Our local players here their mentality is the problem that is why when you leave here your mentality changes then you become a different person. Before the competitive will come unless they change,”

“With talent, you can’t tell me talent will decrease in Ghana I always say that if you talk like that I will tell you the old players Mohammed Polo, Jomens, Pele, Goerge Alhassan, Shamo Quaye started before it got to us Essien and co Sulley and Asamoah so why is it now we are saying it is not good,”

Godwin Attram made ten appearances and scored one goal for the Black Stars from 1997 to 2006.

Godwin began his career with the home-based club Great Olympics in 1996. In 1998, he moved to the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven but did not feature in a single match. He was then transferred on loan to Danish club Silkeborg IF where he played a total of 31 matches scoring 5 goals

He represented the Ghana national football team in the 2006 African Cup of Nations wearing the number 12 jersey. He played in ten international matches and scored one goal for the national team.
