With a few hours to go before Ghana’s 2020 general elections, unusual long queues have started forming at some polling stations across the country, with people hoping to be among the first to cast their vote.
On the night of Sunday 6 December 2020, eligible voters seeking to cast their vote early so they could go about with their various activities used chairs and stones to form queues ahead of the opening of polls at 7:00am on Monday December 7.
By 7:30pm Sunday, some anxious eligible voters showed up at the Vineyard polling station to keep vigil in a queue while others used stones, sandcrete blocks, wooden benches and plastic chairs to secure spots in the queue.
A little over 17 million eligible voters are expected to cast their vote in Monday ’s general elections which will elect the next president for Ghana under the fourth republic as well as 275 members of parliament.
Accra-based Hot93.9FM’s Ernestina Afake reported from the Vineyard polling centre in the New Legon Electoral Area of the Adentan constituency in Accra that scores of voters started queuing Sunday night just about twelve hours before the opening of the polls.
