In a compelling address at the Odododiodio constituency campaign launch in Accra, Lord Oblitey Commey, the former National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the current Director of Operations at the Presidency, emphasized the gravity of the upcoming 2024 elections.
He emphasized that the upcoming election would not be an easy win for any party, highlighting the tough battle ahead in the constituency.
“What I am trying to tell you, constituents, is that if someone asks you if this election is going to be an easy win for anyone, tell the person it is a lie,” he firmly stated, underscoring the challenging nature of the electoral battle ahead.
Lord Commey reiterated the importance of not underestimating the 2024 elections, urging voters to approach it with utmost seriousness.
“If you are not careful, there might be problems,” he warned.
Lord Commey pointed out the unique nature of the Odododiodio constituency, describing it as a tightly-knit community where everyone knows each other, which can lead to heightened tensions and risks after elections.
The seasoned politician further explained that the Odododiodio constituency differs from others, noting that elections here always feel like a “win or win” situation, whether for the NPP or the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“That is why my Ga brothers would tell you that where you belong is where you belong,” he said, emphasizing the strong local affiliations that heighten electoral stakes.
Lord Commey further reminded the audience that the forthcoming elections are not merely about individual candidates like Alhaji Manaf Adjei Sowah, the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, or Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s Flagbearer.
Instead, he stressed, “It is about you, the constituents.”
Recalling the 2020 elections, he somberly noted that despite President Akufo-Addo’s victory, the constituency saw the tragic loss of four lives, with some residents fleeing their homes until the election results were announced.
