The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has clarified the reasons behind the ban imposed on him by the King of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewu Soale.
The King accused the lawmaker of being a threat to the peace and unity in Gonjaland.
This statement was made by the King at the Jakpa Palace following a demonstration by the youth of Gonjaland against the MP.
In response, Mr. Jinapor issued a statement on Monday, July 22, explaining that the King’s actions were a result of his refusal to arrest certain chiefs at the Yagbonwura’s request.
Additionally, Mr Jinapor mentioned that the Yagbonwura had asked for a Land Cruiser vehicle, a request which the MP declined.
Mr. Jinapor emphasised that these refusals were the true reasons behind the King’s actions, rather than any genuine threat to the region’s peace and unity.
“The Yagbonwura, Bui Kunuto Soale Jewu, has expressed his displeasure and disappointment with Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo, for failing to facilitate the arrest of certain Gonja Chiefs.”
“Yagbonwura had also requested a Land Cruiser vehicle from the MP, which was declined.
“When reached for comment, the MP, who serves as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and has cabinet oversight of the Ministry of Energy, confirmed the chief’s request but chose not to elaborate further,” the statement said.
