Asankragua, Western Region – Tensions escalated in the Wasa Amenfi West District of the Western Region when a group of individuals, allegedly posing as National Security officers, stormed a local casino on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

According to reports from Peter Tabi on Aye Hu aired on Hot FM, the group of men arrived in two V8 vehicles and a Stanbic bus, purportedly to arrest several Chinese nationals and Ghanaian workers at the casino. They accused the individuals of money laundering and other offenses, though investigations later revealed that their actions were not part of any official assignment.

The alleged National Security officers, described as wearing gangster-like attire, reportedly proceeded to harass the casino employees and patrons.

Eyewitnesses say the officers confiscated their phones, money, and personal belongings. In a shocking display of aggression, they fired several gunshots into the air, further intimidating the locals.

The residents, quick to react, reached out to the police and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for assistance, questioning the legitimacy of the officers’ actions.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that these individuals were not officially dispatched by any security agency. They had been operating outside the law, harassing the community without authorization.

Local authorities moved swiftly to intervene, with the police stepping in to rescue those detained by the alleged officers. The situation took a further turn when some of the alleged National Security personnel were detained at the Asankragua Police Divisional headquarters.

The Ghana Police Service, under the direction of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has taken immediate action, with some of the suspected impostors being called in for questioning.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the misuse of power and the need for strict regulation of security personnel in the region. As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, demanding justice for those who were wronged.
