In a significant display of party unity, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has made a reconciliatory visit to Andy Appiah Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North and a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This visit comes after Appiah Kubi had previously opposed NAPO’s selection as the party’s running mate, citing a preference for a candidate more connected to the grassroots.

Appiah Kubi had previously voiced his preference for a running mate who he felt was more connected to the grassroots, humble, and respectful.

Despite his reservations, NAPO was confirmed by the National Council and officially unveiled as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in Kumasi on July 9.

Setting aside their perceived differences, a significant step towards party unity was marked by a visit on July 16.

Speaking on Hot 93.9 FM’s Morning Drive, Appiah Kubi shared insights into the reconciliation.

“Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, contacted me, indicating that NAPO wanted to meet,” he disclosed.

During the interview, Appiah Kubi revealed a personal connection, stating, “NAPO is my first cousin.”

He expressed his admiration for NAPO’s courage in reaching out, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party.

Appiah Kubi encouraged other party members to follow their example and unite to help the NPP secure victory in the upcoming elections.

He acknowledged that his initial opposition to NAPO’s selection was driven by a desire for critical examination within the party, but now believes in moving forward together.

Following their meeting, NAPO and Appiah Kubi pledged to work collaboratively to ensure the NPP’s success in the 2024 general elections.

In a Facebook post, the NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, celebrated the reconciliation, stating, “The brotherhood is rekindled. NPP vice presidential candidate, Hon Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), and Hon Andy Appiah Kubi earlier today. The NPP is poised to break the 8!!”
