In a dramatic turn of events, police in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region shot and killed one armed robber during a patrol operation in the early hours of Saturday, December 28, 2024.
The incident occurred near the Awisa cemetery when a group of four armed robbers ambushed the road, targeting unsuspecting travelers.
According to reports, the robbers attacked a sprinter bus and a Yutong bus, forcibly robbing passengers of their belongings. Upon receiving a distress call, the police patrol team swiftly arrived at the scene, but the armed men opened fire, prompting a gunfire exchange.
During the shootout, one of the robbers was gunned down while the other three managed to escape into nearby bushes.
Items recovered from the scene included a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, a student bag containing two Itel mobile phones, a power bank, six BB cartridges, and an undisclosed amount of money.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary, while police investigations are ongoing.
As of the time of filing this report, the police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
