Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has confirmed the death of his mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia in Accra today September 13, 2021.
According to a Facebook post on his official handle, the 81-year-old died in her sleep and would be buried tomorrow September 14, 2021, in Walewale in the North East Region in accordance with the Islamic custom.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia.
Hajia Mariama passed away peacefully this morning in Accra. Burial is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in Walewale. May the Almighty Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus
Hajia Mariama is a native of Kpasenkpe in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
She was one of the first northern female students to gain admission to the prestigious Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
