The Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere-Duah, has called for urgent action to address the deplorable state of the Jinijini–Drobo section of the Berekum–Sampa road, warning that the worsening condition has contributed to a surge in robbery cases in the area.

Speaking in Parliament, the lawmaker linked the rising incidents of robbery to the poor state of the road, noting that the situation makes it difficult for security personnel to respond swiftly to distress calls. He said the attacks continue to threaten the safety, peace, and economic stability of residents in both the Berekum West and Jaman South Municipalities.

The MP stressed that the stretch remains one of the most critical corridors in the Bono Region, connecting two highly populated municipalities and linking to the Sampa border enclave, a key hub for cross-border trade between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. He added that the road supports major economic activities, the transport of agricultural produce, movement of goods and services, and serves as an important educational and administrative route.

Hon. Kyere-Duah described the road as having deteriorated into a “death trap,” creating conditions that embolden robbers. To curb the situation, he proposed immediate repair of the Sampa–Jinijini road, increased police patrols, installation of CCTV cameras, improved street lighting, and collaboration with local communities to establish a neighbourhood watch system.

The MP believes these interventions will help reduce robbery incidents and enhance the safety and security of residents and travellers. His comments come amid growing concern over how poor road infrastructure continues to hinder economic development and endanger public safety in the region.
