Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has come under intense criticism following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) dismal performance in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 elections.
Alhassan Seidu, also called Odenkey, a member of the NPP’s Invisible Forces, alleged in an interview that Wontumi’s leadership contributed significantly to the party’s downfall in its traditional stronghold.
Speaking on Radio XYZ with Agya Wusu, Odenkey labeled Wontumi a “satan to the Ashanti Region,” accusing him of spoiling the NPP alongside President Akufo-Addo.
He claimed he narrowly escaped death due to his association with Wontumi, reflecting the deep divisions within the party. He further revealed plans for a demonstration against Wontumi, threatening to confront him should he attempt to visit the party’s regional office.
The Invisible Force member criticized Wontumi’s perceived high-handedness, alleging that party formalities were disregarded under his leadership.
According to Odenkey, Wontumi’s failure to respect internal structures contributed to the party’s electoral loss. He also described Wontumi as stingy, claiming he would only offer party faithful GHC 50 in passing.
Odenkey suggested that the party’s loss in the 2024 elections was foreseen by Imams in Mecca, who had reportedly advised that only a candidate like Alan Kyerematen could have secured victory. He alleged that prominent NPP members, including the party’s National Third Vice Chairman Osman Masawudu, also known as Chairman Buga, were aware of this prophecy but failed to act on it.
The outspoken party member also accused Wontumi of disrespecting senior NPP figures such as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO.
These remarks highlight growing discontent among party members, which could lead to further internal conflicts as the NPP strategizes its way forward.
