The High Court in Amasaman has rejected a bail application filed by lawyers for convicted evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The request was made as part of an ongoing appeal process challenging her recent conviction and 15-year custodial sentence.
“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it. The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process,” said Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a member of her legal team, in an interview with Citi News on Tuesday, July 15.
Nana Agradaa was sentenced on July 3 by the Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, after being found guilty of defrauding by false pretence and engaging in charlatanic advertisement. The sentence sparked a swift legal challenge from her defense team, who argue the trial was unfair and the judgment flawed.
Although the court denied her temporary release, her lawyers maintain that the appeal will continue. A formal petition was filed on July 7, with lead counsel Richard Asare Baffour confirming efforts to overturn both the conviction and the sentence through the appropriate legal procedures.
