The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence imposed on controversial evangelist Nana Agradaato 12 calendar months, ruling that the original punishment was harsh and excessive.
In its decision, the court upheld her conviction but exercised its discretionary powers to vary the sentence earlier handed down by the trial court, reducing it significantly.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, meaning Nana Agradaa will serve a total of 12 months in prison.
The court held that while the offences for which she was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate in the circumstances, making a downward adjustment appropriate.
Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess turned evangelist, was convicted of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.
She was found guilty of deceiving members of the public through a televised broadcast in 2022, during which she claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
Investigations established that her claims led several individuals to part with substantial sums of money in anticipation of miraculous financial returns—promises that were never fulfilled.
