The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, upholding a High Court decision that declared Adolph Tetteh Adjei as the rightful owner of a disputed 2-acre parcel of land in the Tse Addo enclave in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.
The appeal, according to starrfm.com.gh reports, was dismissed by a 2-1 majority, with Justice Senyo Dzamefe dissenting.
The panel, presided over by Justice Dzamefe, affirmed the High Court’s 2023 decision, which ordered Anas to pay Adjei GH¢60,000 for trespassing and an additional GH¢40,000 in legal costs.
Anas had appealed the ruling, but the Court of Appeal’s decision on July 4, 2024, dismissed his appeal and imposed a further GH¢30,000 in costs against him.
The dispute began in 2017 when Adjei filed a lawsuit claiming rightful ownership of the land, which he said he acquired from the East Dadekotopon Development Trust.
Anas refuted these claims in his defense. Despite Anas’s efforts to overturn the ruling, the Court of Appeal’s decision marks the second legal affirmation of Adjei’s ownership of the land.
