Legendary Highlife musician Kojo Ashakan, also known as Starman, has stated that the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba is not the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time.
Since Charles Kojo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60 at the Bank Hospital after a short illness, a debate has emerged over whether he is the greatest musician Ghana has ever seen.
Some entertainment pundits have even rated the late Highlife icon above the late pop superstar Michael Jackson.
But in an exclusive interview on Hot 93.9FM’s midmorning show ‘Ay3 Hu,’ hosted by Chairman KK, Kojo Ashakan stated categorically that Daddy Lumba is not the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time.
According to Kojo Ashakan, the late Highlife icon is rather the greatest musician of his generation.
“Daddy Lumba was a great musician, and his death is a big blow to the Ghanaian music industry, but he is not the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time. In music, there is always someone who becomes the greatest of that generation, so the fact is, he is the greatest of his generation,” Kojo Ashakan said.
Kojo Ashakan, who is well-known for the hit song ‘Cedi Na Egye,’ has another smash hit single out, “Weather”.
