The Attorney-General unexpectedly withdrew charges against Bishop Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and another individual in the East Legon accident case, leading to their discharge by the court.
However, unconfirmed reports indicate they were re-arrested shortly after leaving the courtroom, possibly under new legal circumstances.
On Monday, February 17, 2025, the state informed the court of its decision to drop the charges against all three individuals.
This action allows the police to conduct further investigations and determine the appropriate action. The judge subsequently dismissed the charges.
Background
Bishop Elijah Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and Linda Bonsu Bempah, a sales assistant, were arrested following a fatal accident in East Legon on October 12, 2024, involving their 16-year-old son. The minor, driving a white Jaguar F-Pace Sport without a license, collided with an Acura SUV. The Acura caught fire, tragically resulting in the deaths of two young girls.
In December 2024, the teenager pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center. He had initially denied charges of manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license, but later changed his plea.
His sentence included bi-weekly reporting to probation officers and an agreement not to drive until he turned 18.
In a separate ruling, the parents were each fined 500 penalty units (GH₵6,000) for failing to supervise their son properly.
They were also ordered to pay for damages caused by the accident, including a light pole valued at GH₵8,000
