The Electoral Commission (EC) has alerted the police to two women circulating a video falsely alleging that the commission is secretly transferring and registering voters.
The EC firmly refutes these claims, stating that voter registration and transfers concluded on May 29 and July 5, respectively.
In a press release dated July 15, 2024, signed by EC Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey, the commission called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the “fabrications.”
The EC emphasized the importance of avoiding falsehoods that could undermine state institutions and jeopardize national peace and stability.
The EC clarified that the allegations are baseless, noting that the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits used for transfers were deactivated after the exercise, making further registrations impossible.
The videos provided no evidence, such as registration kits or EC officials, supporting the claims.
Urging the public to disregard the misleading videos, the EC underscored the danger such accusations pose to the democratic process.
The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the lead-up to the December 2024 General Election.
