Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana, Dr. Stephen Yamoah, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his strong dedication and endorsement of the nuclear power plant project to help improve the energy sector of the country.

Speaking during day one of a two-day virtual workshop for media professionals, on February 28, 2025, focused on nuclear energy, Dr. Yamoah revealed that the project has been longstanding; however, due to shifts in political power and changes in government, the project has faced several delays and stagnation.

The two-day virtual workshop, which took place on the 27th-28th of February, 2025, brought together various stakeholders and experts from various energy-related sectors and academia, who gave intellectual education of the transformative nature of nuclear power and its relevance to the public (Ghanaians).

Dr. Yamoah indicated that even though the project had been in the pipeline for years, there have been a poor focus from various administrations.

However, he expressed his satisfaction with President John Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that the project, under his administration, is a success.

Dr. Stephen Yamoah further emphasized on the importance of the workshop, particularly to media professionals, stating that this workshop seeks to deepen their understanding of issues in the nuclear sector.

He explained that the works of media professional are essential to generate content, create awareness, and help the public in understanding the complexities of nuclear energy, and with that, generate potential solutions to address these challenges.

He used the opportunity to encourage active media participation, emphasizing that their writing skills in a way can contribute to informed public decision on the issue.

“This meeting is not just for reporting about the meeting, but to ensure that you are equipped with knowledge and information to be able to create some awareness in every corner you may find yourself,” Dr. Yamoah said.

Dr. Stephen Yamoah stated that the media has the capacity to contribute immensely to informed decisions, as they can help to bring out and address every critical issue related to nuclear energy.
