According to a Joy News report, a raging fire has gutted multiple two-story buildings in Kumasi’s central business district, leaving several shops in ruins.
The inferno erupted around 6 a.m. at the bustling Blue Light Arena, near Hello FM, spreading rapidly before firefighters could contain it. As flames consumed the structures, desperate traders forced their way into their shops, frantically tossing out goods to salvage their wares.
Most of the affected businesses specialized in mobile phones, accessories, jewellery, and clothing, with losses expected to be substantial.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault, pointing to a flickering electricity pole that allegedly sparked and ignited the top floor of one of the buildings.
Amid the chaos, Hello FM’s programme director, Nana Ama Ataffuah Quainoo, confirmed that staff had to be evacuated as the fire inched dangerously closer. However, she expressed concern over what she described as a delayed response from fire personnel.
Eventually, multiple fire tenders arrived, but firefighters struggled to bring the situation under control, battling both the intensity of the flames and the layout of the affected buildings.
