A team of heavily armed security personnel, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, conducted a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
The operation, which occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his Roman Ridge home in Accra, involved approximately twenty operatives, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles. Upon arrival, the security team disabled the property’s CCTV system before proceeding with their search.
Sources indicate that the operatives demanded access to alleged “vaults” within the house, but Dr. Addison, visibly taken aback, denied having any such hidden cash reserves. Despite his response, the security personnel proceeded with a thorough search, allegedly ransacking rooms.
Witnesses reported that the search yielded no vaults or substantial amounts of money. Frustrated, the operatives confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit before leaving the premises.
The incident has left Dr. Addison and his family in distress, with close associates describing the raid as deeply traumatic. The operation has reignited debates about the handling of appointees from the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
This marks at least the second such operation involving Mr. Jakpa. In February 2025, a similar raid targeted former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, whose Labone residence was stormed by over fifteen armed operatives.
That operation, captured on CCTV and later made public, intensified discussions surrounding the treatment of former government officials under President John Mahama’s administration.
