Freddie Blay and son sue MP Ablakwa for defamation over alleged State property theft

In two separate lawsuits, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Freddie Blay and his son, Kwame Blay, have sued Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for defamatory publications that falsely implicated them in the alleged theft of state property.

While Kwame Blay’s lawsuit is solely against the North Tongu MP, Freddie Blay’s suit also names Media General and Johnnie Hughes as defendants.

Kwame Blay, in his lawsuit, emphasizes his distinct identity from his brother, Kwaw, and denies any involvement with the Polo Beach Club or related entities.

He categorically states, “I have never dealt with Loic Devos Jnr, who is currently in a legal dispute with one of my brother’s businesses, Press Xpress.”

Kwame claims that Ablakwa’s allegations have significantly damaged his business and reputation and questions why a lawmaker would publicly adjudicate a private dispute, causing public disaffection for one of the parties.

In the second lawsuit, Freddie Blay alleges that Ablakwa’s actions were motivated by malice, particularly given the proximity to elections, and aimed to ruin his hard-earned reputation. He asserts that the information about his sons and family is entirely false.

The former Ellembelle MP claims that Media General and its presenter Johnnie Hughes published untruths intended to tarnish his reputation.

Blay highlights that Hughes, on his show “Johnnie’s Bite,” amplified Ablakwa’s statements and presented them as factual information, further damaging his reputation.
