Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) President, Bawa Fuseini, has assured that Ghana will deliver a competition of the highest international standards when it hosts the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships.
Speaking at the official launch of the event in Accra, Mr Fuseini outlined measures being put in place to ensure accuracy, credibility, and professionalism in officiating throughout the championship.
According to him, Ghana is adopting modern and reliable technical systems comparable to those used at global competitions such as the World Athletics Championships and the Olympic Games.
“This is the first time Ghana is hosting the African Athletics Championships, and we are putting in place the right structures to meet global standards,” he stated.
His comments come amid concerns over officiating inconsistencies that have affected some athletics events across the continent in the past, with organisers determined to eliminate potential controversies.
The championship is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 17, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where top athletes from across Africa will compete for honours.
The GAA believes that investing in advanced systems and infrastructure will not only ensure a smooth and transparent competition but also strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a credible host for major international sporting events.
With preparations intensifying, officials remain confident that Accra 2026 will deliver a successful and memorable tournament that meets global expectations while leaving a lasting legacy for athletics development in the country.
