The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) is calling on the Local Government Ministry to expedite the payment of ex-gratia for assembly members, as many assemblies have yet to establish a payment plan.
At a press conference held in Sehwi Essam, Bia West District of the Western North Region, Frank Nelson Ackah, the national president of GAAM, made an urgent appeal to the government to address the delay in ex-gratia payments.
Ackah highlighted that, despite the new assembly’s inauguration seven months ago, no ex-gratia payments have been made. He emphasized the need for prompt action to resolve this issue.
Additionally, Ackah proposed the creation of an Electoral Area Fund to support assembly members in their development efforts.
He stressed the importance of enacting a law to allow assembly members to undertake developmental projects, with stringent auditing and supervision conducted by the district assembly.
The appeal and proposal aim to improve the efficiency of local governance and support assembly members in their roles.
