The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has successfully launched the 4th edition of the KGL Foundation inter-Regional U-17 football championship.

The launch event was held at the GFA conference room on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off from July 25 to August 8 at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.

Nii Sarpey, Programs Manager at the KGL Foundation, emphasized the significance of the tournament in unearthing potential youth footballers across the country.

“The KGL Foundation is committed to supporting the development of young football talent in Ghana. This tournament provides a platform for U-17 players to showcase their skills and potentially become future stars of Ghanaian football.”

He reassured the GFA of the KGL Foundation’s continued support to ensure the continuous development of talents.

Ten U-17 regional football teams will participate in the tournament, which will be officiated by referees from the “Catch Them Young” initiatives.

Each participating team will receive 50 balls, two sets of cones, two sets of bibs, and two sets of match jerseys.

The GFA has also announced that the tournament will award the Top Scorer, Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Discovery of the Year as well as winner of the event.

Dr. Randy Abbey, an Executive Member of the GFA, expressed gratitude to the KGL Foundation for their support.

“We are grateful for the KGL Foundation’s partnership in developing young football talent. We have outlined suitable measures to ensure a successful hosting of the event, and we look forward to an exciting tournament.” He said.

In Group A, participating regions include defending champions Ashanti Region alongside Bono Ahafo Region, Volta Region, Central Region, and Northern Region.

Group B comprises Greater Accra Region, Eastern Region, Upper East Region, Upper West, and Western Region.

The KGL U-17 Football Championship has become a vital platform for identifying and nurturing young football talent in Ghana.

With the support of the KGL Foundation, the GFA is committed to developing the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.
