Ghana’s Paralympic team has absconded to other Schengen states following their arrival in Norway for the games.
The team of 11 persons failed to register and participate in a competition that was held in late April in Norway.
A document issued by the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, and addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed that Nana Antwi, a member of the team, was earlier arrested and detained in late April by Norwegian security officials after attempting to exit Norway to Sweden.
The document further disclosed that George Gyamfi Gyasi, the team coach, collapsed and was admitted to the Oslo University Hospital but later died on May 17, 2024.
The statement added that the Norwegian embassy in Accra “has issued alerts to other Schengen and West Diplomatic Missions in Accra to help apprehend and repatriate the team members.”
