Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has urged the Attorney General (AG) to expedite the resolution of the Ahmed Suale case, which has experienced numerous delays over the years. This appeal follows a recent attack on three journalists, which prompted the media to impose a blackout on certain political figures.
During the GJA’s 75th Anniversary Lecture in Ho, Mr. Dwumfour emphasized that the Association would continue to pressure state authorities to secure justice for Ahmed Suale.
He also called on the government to strengthen its collaboration with the GJA to ensure the safety and security of journalists across the nation.
Mr. Dwumfour highlighted the critical need for public support for the media to flourish. He appealed to anyone with information regarding the Ahmed Suale case to assist the police in their investigation.
The GJA president stressed that the lack of progress in the case negatively impacts Ghana’s standing on the World Press Freedom Index.
In 2024, the GJA imposed a media blackout on key state personalities following attacks on three journalists while on duty. Mr. Dwumfour reiterated the importance of government cooperation with the GJA in safeguarding journalists in Ghana.
He also reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to relentlessly advocating for justice for Ahmed Suale, an investigative journalist whose murder remains unsolved after five years.
The GJA continues to seek public cooperation to address these challenges and advance the nation’s development.
