President Akufo-Addo has presented one thousand five hundred (1,500) motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service, calling on them to continue with the good work of providing security.

He urged the Police to put the motorbikes to good use by deploying them to communities in need. The President pledged an additional three thousand five hundred (3,500) bikes at the end of next year to bring the number to five thousand (5,000).

The donation forms part of the government’s agenda to retool the police service to enable it to carry out its duties of protecting lives and property.

This year, the government gave the green light for the service to recruit 5000 officers, with 3000 already passed out and the remaining 2000 under training. These officers are the first batch to benefit from the modified training curricular which is focused on equipping the police officers with skills in driving, swimming, and motorbike riding, in addition to other tactical skills.

IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was grateful to the government for resourcing the service. He assured Ghanaians that the police will do whatever it takes to maintain the peace and the safety of every Ghanaian.

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, said the government will transform the police to be professional in their dealings.

President Akufo-Addo said the government will continue to provide the support required to make the police fit for its purpose. He said the transformational agenda embarked on by the police, which will regain the confidence, trust, and respect of the public, has the full backing of the government.

He urged the management of the police service to put the motorbikes to good use and ensure they reach the communities which need them most.

President Akufo-Addo officially handed over the keys to the IGP, signifying the official commissioning of the motorbikes.
