President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has fiercely criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, asserting that he does not deserve to win the upcoming December polls due to a lack of fresh ideas.
Akufo-Addo pointed to Mahama’s previous defeat in his reelection bid as clear evidence of his unsuitability for the presidency.
Speaking at the unveiling of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate Matthew Opoku Prempeh, President Akufo-Addo compared Mahama’s record with those of former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself, who all served two terms.
He emphasized that Mahama’s rejection for a second term starkly contrasts with the success of his predecessors.
“Since the 4th republic, Jerry John Rawlings was allowed to serve for his second term, John Agyekum Kufuor was also allowed to serve for two terms and me, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has also been allowed to serve for two terms. However, he [Mahama] was rejected for his second term and he’s now asking for a second chance. We won’t consider him for the presidency, either today or tomorrow.”
Akufo-Addo did not hold back in his critique, dismissing Mahama’s campaign as void of innovation and progress.
“He talks as if we don’t know his track record. He has nothing new to offer. We know his track record and he has nothing new for Ghanaians,” Akufo-Addo stated, highlighting the lack of confidence in Mahama’s leadership capabilities.
The President further questioned the rationale behind giving Mahama another chance, given his previous performance.
“We saw what he did during his tenure in office which led to his defeat in his second attempt, after realizing he was not fit for the job, why should we vote for him now? We won’t!”
