The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey, has announced the renewal of curfew hours in Kpatinga and Bimbilla, following advice from the Northern Regional Security Council.
By Executive Instrument, the curfew in Kpatinga and its environs will now be from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m., effective Friday, July 12, 2024.
The same curfew hours have been imposed on Bimbilla Township, starting on the same date.
The government has expressed gratitude to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents of Kpatinga and Bimbilla for their cooperation amidst the ongoing challenges.
The Minister urged the communities to continue exercising restraint and to seek non-violent methods to address their grievances.
“We appreciate the efforts of the local leaders and community members in striving for peace,” stated Hon. Quartey.
In addition to the curfew renewal, a total ban has been placed on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in both Kpatinga and Bimbilla.
The Interior Minister warned that anyone found in possession of such items would face arrest and prosecution.
“This measure is crucial to prevent violence and ensure the safety of all residents,” emphasized Hon. Quartey.
The curfews and the ban on weapons underscore the government’s commitment to restoring and maintaining peace in the affected areas.
The Minister called on the communities to support these efforts, highlighting the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence.
“We urge everyone to work together to create a secure environment,” he added.
The announcements, issued in Accra on Friday, July 12, 2024, reflect the government’s proactive stance in addressing security concerns in the Northern Region.
