Black Stars and Quarabag FC Striker, Kwabena Owusu has revealed that he had the expectation of being selected to play with the Black Stars in the friendly matches against Mali and Qatar.
The Black Stars team manager, C.K Akonnor announced a 23-man squad for this month’s friendly game that excludes Kwabena Owusu.
The players include: Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori (Maritzburg), Richard Ati Zigi (St. Gallen), Razak Abalora (Unattached) Full Backs: Benson Anang (Zilina FC), Lumor Agbenyenu (Sporting Club), Yakubu Mohammed (Azam FC), Gideon Mensah (Vitoria de Guimaraes) Centre Backs: Alexander Djiku (Strasbourg), Joseph Aidoo (Celta de Vigo), Nicholas Opoku (Amiens), Kassim Nuhu (Hoffenheim) Midfielders: Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid), Emmanuel Lomotey (Amiens), Bernard Mensah (Besiktas), Baba Iddrisu (RCD Mallorca) Attackers/Wingers: Andre Ayew (Swansea), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), John Antwi (Pyramids FC), Eugene Ansah (Hapoel Shmona), Jefferey Schlupp (Crystal Palace), Samuel Owusu (Al Fayha FC), Kamal Deen (Nordsjaelland SC), and Mohammed Kudus (Ajax SC)
The match will be held in Antalya, Turkey on Friday 9 October and serve as part of the Black Stars’ preparations for the resumption of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers the following month.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hot 93.9 FM’s ‘Focal Sports’ show hosted by Justice Opoku Agyemang aka Bigality, Kwabena Owusu expressed his disappointment for not being selected.
Kwabena Owusu, who was the captain of the U23 team, Black Meteors that failed to qualify to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo revealed that he was very much expectant that he would receive an invitation from Coach C K Akonnor, because he had had a conversation with him, prior to that.
“It is probably because my performance is not up to the level he requires for the upcoming matches” Kwabena Owusu said, in an attempt to give a possible reason why he could not make it to the selection.
“I was expecting an invitation, because I had a conversation with him during the match against South Africa about the upcoming game” he further informed.
