The Parliament of Ghana has approved the findings of the Ad Hoc Committee that investigated the leaked audio suggesting a plot to remove Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
This decision came after a majority voice vote in favor of the report, which was signed by five committee members.
The committee’s report recommends disciplinary action against three senior police officers: COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi.
These officers were found to have engaged in misconduct related to the leaked tape incident.
Following the adoption of the report, Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, instructed the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Cyril Oteng Nsiah, to forward a copy of the report to President Nana Akufo-Addo for further consideration.
The report’s adoption underscores Parliament’s commitment to upholding integrity within the police service and ensuring accountability among its ranks.
The recommended sanctions aim to address the misconduct and maintain public trust in the police force.
