Accra, July 12, 2024 – The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has announced the renewal and imposition of curfews in various regions across Ghana through Executive Instruments.

These measures are part of the government’s efforts to maintain peace and order in areas facing ongoing disputes and unrest.

In the Northern Region, curfew hours for Saboba Township and its surrounding areas have been renewed from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, effective Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

The government urges local Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and Youth to remain calm and resolve their issues through non-violent means. A strict ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons is in place, with violators facing arrest and prosecution.

In the Bono Region, the curfew from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am has been imposed on Sampa Township in the Jaman North District starting Thursday, July 11, 2024, following chieftaincy disputes.

The government encourages the community to exercise restraint and seek peaceful solutions. The carrying of arms or offensive weapons is prohibited, and enforcement actions will be taken against offenders.

For Drobo, Japekrom, and surrounding areas in the Jaman South Municipality, curfew hours from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am have been renewed, effective Thursday, July 11, 2024.

The government commends the local communities for their efforts in maintaining peace and urges them to continue using established mechanisms for conflict resolution. A total ban on carrying arms or offensive weapons remains in force.

In the North East Region, the curfew for Chereponi Township and its environs has been renewed from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, starting Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The government advises the community to address their challenges through peaceful means and avoid violence.

Carrying arms or offensive weapons is strictly forbidden, with penalties for those found in violation.

These curfew renewals and impositions reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and stability in these regions.

Minister Henry Quartey emphasized the importance of cooperation from all affected communities to support peacebuilding efforts and uphold the law.
