Then flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is reported to quit politics in Ghana after party delegates failed to vote for him as a presidential candidate despite the showdown campaign.
In a viral video sighted by Hotfmghana, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Constituency revealed that he had lots of options other than politics.
He furthered that he would let Ghanaians know whether he would concentrate on business and not politics.
”I want to thank you all Ghanaians including the ones abroad for the confidence reposed in me, He who runs live to fight another day, so there is hope….
The important thing is that we have life. So everybody should take heart, nobody should be worried. For me, I have lots of alternatives. I can go into business and not politics but time will tell, Thank you all…. God bless you, Kennedy Agyapong shared with viewers on a live show.”
In May 2022, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong announced his candidacy for the flagbearer position within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He emphasized that his decision was resolute and final.
Prior to the election, Mr. Agyapong commenced a showdown campaign from New York, USA, to all constituencies made up of party delegates to announce his odds against the sitting vice president for the Akufo Addo-led administration.
As a lawmaker for 23 years with the NPP, Kennedy Agyapong used all his political intellect to persuade delegates to vote for him before the election amidst a feud between internal opposition camps.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong lost the flagbearership race to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia after an election conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) to elect a new candidate for the NPP towards the 2024 General Elections on November 4, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Assin Central MP will close his chapters in parliament as he will not seek parliamentary re-election in 2024.
