The Member of Parliament for Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, Joseph Azumah, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its supporters to respect the independence of the Supreme Court, especially when its rulings do not go in their favour.
He made the remarks in relation to the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the planned parliamentary rerun election in the Kpandai Constituency, which was scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The Supreme Court ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend all arrangements for the rerun election pending the final determination of a judicial review application challenging a High Court ruling that annulled the 2024 parliamentary results in the constituency.
The order was issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, after the court held that the applicant, NPP parliamentary candidate Matthew Nyindam, had established a prima facie case in his bid to quash a judgment delivered by the Tamale High Court on November 24, 2025.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview with the media at Parliament House, Hon. Azumah noted that while the NPP is jubilating over the ruling, the party must be prepared to respect the Supreme Court when future decisions go against it.
The Adansi Akrofuom MP further stressed that the NDC would continue to campaign in the Kpandai Constituency despite the suspension of the rerun, adding that the party remains confident of winning should elections be held in the constituency.
