The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of running a fake news campaign aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Mahama alleged that this disinformation strategy is designed to undermine his credibility and sway public opinion.
Addressing specific allegations, Mahama dismissed claims that he orchestrated an attack on his convoy in Techiman, labeling such reports as baseless fabrications. He appealed to the Asantehene to disregard the accusations, emphasizing that they are intended to create division and tension.
Mahama assured the Asantehene of his unwavering commitment to peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
The former President reiterated his dedication to fostering a united and transparent electoral process. He called on all stakeholders, including political parties and the media, to prioritize the national interest over divisive rhetoric.
Mahama also expressed optimism about the upcoming elections, urging all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and refrain from strategies that undermine the democratic process. His visit to the Asantehene is part of ongoing efforts to garner support in the Ashanti Region, a key battleground for the 2024 elections.
As the election season heats up, Mahama’s accusations highlight the growing tensions between the NDC and NPP. He called for vigilance against misinformation, urging voters to critically assess the credibility of claims circulating in the political arena.
