Joseph Appiah Boateng, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwahu Afram Plains South, has acknowledged the grievances of the Aggrieved Drivers Unions who protested yesterday.
The drivers, with support from local residents, demonstrated against the management of the government, Volta Lake Transport Company Limited, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for neglecting the area’s road infrastructure.
The protesters highlighted the deplorable state of the roads in Kwahu Afram Plains.
They expressed frustration over numerous attempts to get the roads repaired, which have been ignored by the authorities. The poor condition of the roads has been a long-standing issue, affecting the daily lives and safety of the residents.
In addition to the road issues, the drivers and residents voiced concerns about the deteriorating state of the ferry on Volta Lake.
They warned that the ferry is in such poor condition that it could sink at any moment, citing three incidents in the past month where the ferry nearly sank. This situation poses a significant threat to the safety of those who rely on the ferry for transportation.
MP Joseph Appiah Boateng has called on the government to address these urgent issues. He emphasized the need for immediate action to repair the roads and ensure the ferry’s safety to prevent any further incidents.
The MP’s acknowledgment of the demonstrators’ concerns and his call for swift government intervention highlight the pressing need for improvements in the Kwahu Afram Plains region.
The residents and drivers hope that their voices will lead to tangible changes in the infrastructure and transportation safety of their community.
