The National Food Suppliers Association has announced plans to picket at the Ministry of Education (MoE) this week over seven months of unpaid debts.
The Association claims the government owes them over GHC 200 million in arrears.
Spokesperson Mr. Kwaku Amedume stated in an interview with Hot 93.9 FM’s Taken Over News that the government’s failure to settle these debts has left suppliers struggling to repay loans taken to purchase foodstuffs for various Senior High Schools.
The protest is aimed at highlighting what the Association describes as the government’s deliberate attempt to frustrate their efforts and force a resolution to the prolonged payment delays.
The unpaid debts have put significant financial pressure on the suppliers, as banks are demanding repayments for the loans used to fund their operations.
The Association hopes that the planned picketing will prompt the government to address their grievances and expedite the payment process.
