The National Theatre of Ghana officially relaunched its Music Education Department on Sunday, 2 November 2025.

The relaunched department is set to play a vital role in nurturing young talent, promoting music literacy, and successfully connecting Ghana’s artistic traditions to the next generation.

Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of the National Theatre, Mr Herbert Malm, passionately outlined the department’s vision. He stated that through this initiative:

“We envision a space where young people can explore their creativity, where schools can integrate music and performance into learning, and where future composers, instrumentalists, and performing artists can find mentorship and inspiration.”

Mr Malm emphasised the historical significance of the department, noting that it has always been crucial for nurturing young talent and promoting music literacy.

He called the relaunch a “significant milestone” and a clear “statement of intent” regarding the National Theatre’s deep commitment to creative development, cultural preservation, and education through the performing arts.

Economic Impact and Government Alignment

Beyond its educational mandate, the revitalised Music Education Department is also designed to have a tangible economic impact. Mr Malm highlighted that the initiative will create new income streams for a different segment of creative professionals.

These professionals include: Musicians, Educators, Composers and Facilitators. These roles will help drive cultural and economic activity, moving beyond the traditional workday.

The Executive Director of the National Theatre concluded that this initiative perfectly reflects the government’s broader vision of resetting the economy through innovation, inclusion, and productivity—principles that the arts naturally embody.

The National Theatre is thus reinforcing its position as a key institution for both cultural enrichment and economic progress in Ghana. Some of the young talent who performed at the launch included students from Sovereign Kids Academy

Deborah Academy and Jesus Cares Academy: Jady Coleman and Adom excited patrons with a magnificent piano recital and solo drum performances.
