The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the disqualification of Michael Nii Yarboi, a parliamentary aspirant in the Odododiodioo Constituency.
The decision was made by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) after a report by a Special Committee investigating violence during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants.
The FEC, in a press statement released yesterday, stated that Mr. Yarboi is not qualified under the provisions of article 41 (8) (b) of the NDC’s constitution and therefore cannot participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Odododiodioo.
This disqualification comes after it was detected that Mr. Yarboi had defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join the NDC.
Additionally, the FEC has imposed joint surcharges on the other two aspirants, Alfred Nii Kotei Ashie and Emmanuel Nii Kotei Ashie, whose supporters were found to have caused damage to properties at the vetting center.
The committee’s findings reveal that the supporters of these aspirants were responsible for the violence that occurred during the vetting process.
The NDC also issued an apology to Akosua Octhere, a journalist who was manhandled during the vetting.
The party has assured her that it will work with her to cover all her medical bills.
Furthermore, the FEC has directed its election directorate to take immediate steps to organize the parliamentary primaries for the Odododiodioo Constituency.
The party is determined to ensure a transparent and fair selection process for its parliamentary candidates.
