Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV, the Divisional Chief of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra region, has raised concerns over the persistent lack of pipe-borne water in the area.

Despite the construction of the Weija Dam on their land, which supplies water to much of Accra, Ngleshie Amanfro residents continue to struggle with inconsistent water flow.

This issue has severely affected both commercial and domestic water users.

Historically, the people of Ngleshie Amanfro were relocated to their current location in 1974 due to the dam’s construction.

However, they have yet to enjoy a stable water supply, which remains a significant source of frustration for the community.

Speaking to Hot 93.9 FM’s reporter, BKB, Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV highlighted this ongoing problem and expressed his disappointment at the slow pace of development in the area, particularly the failure to construct adequate roads.

Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV’s remarks come ahead of the community’s annual Yam Festival, a significant event in the Ga people’s cultural calendar.

The festival, celebrated before the Homowo festival, showcases the year’s bumper harvest and serves as a time to give thanks to the ancestors for their protection.

The Traditional Chief Priest of Ngleshie Amanfro, Numo Kankam II, also spoke on the importance of preserving the community’s culture and heritage.

He addressed misconceptions about their traditions, emphasizing that their practices are not idolatrous but a vital part of their identity.
