Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, has called on Ghanaians to ensure the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections are peaceful and free of violence.

He described the loss of lives during elections as shameful and urged citizens to prevent such incidents.

Despite generally peaceful elections, reports from the European Union, African Union, CODEO, and other observers have noted violence and deaths in all seven elections since 1992.

Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong emphasized that the eighth Presidential and Parliamentary elections are crucial for protecting Ghana’s democracy and called on all stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful process.

Speaking at a public lecture organized by the Brong Ahafo Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Techiman, in collaboration with the Techiman Traditional Council, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong cited cheating, violence, ethnocentrism, and vote manipulation as causes of electoral violence, urging political parties to desist from these practices.

Nana Owusu Gyare II, Akwamu Hene and acting president of the Techiman Traditional Council, highlighted the 2024 elections as a critical test to consolidate Ghana’s democratic gains. He called on everyone to ensure a peaceful and successful election.

The event, attended by representatives from the Electoral Commission, security agencies, clergy, political parties, and other stakeholders, concluded with unanimous pledges to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.
