Rock City Hotel has officially withdrawn its bid to acquire a 60 percent stake in four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The hotels in question are La Palm Beach Hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, Royal Ridge Hotel, and Elmina Beach Hotel.

This decision follows mounting pressure from Organized Labour, which threatened a strike should the sale proceed.

Organized Labour’s concerns were significant enough to prompt the withdrawal. They had set a strike date for Monday, July 15, voicing strong opposition to the potential sale of the SSNIT hotels to Rock City Hotel.

The protest was aimed at preventing the transfer of these significant assets to a private entity, especially one associated with Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.

In their withdrawal letter to SSNIT’s Director-General, Mr. Kofi Osafo-Maafo, Rock City Hotel expressed frustration over the situation. They cited inadequate stakeholder engagement as a critical issue, which they believe contributed to the negative perception of their bid.

“The absence of thorough stakeholder engagement has resulted in an unfairly negative portrayal of our intentions,” the letter stated.

Demonstrating a commitment to transparency, Rock City Hotel has agreed to make its bid documents available for public review. They emphasized their openness to having these documents scrutinized or published, if necessary, to ensure clarity and accountability in their actions.

“We are willing to release our bid documents for public scrutiny to maintain transparency,” the hotel stated.
