The members of the Parliament of Ghana’s Select Committee on Roads and Transport has recently carried out an official visit to the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT) in the Ashanti Region as part of their duties to oversee operations in the area.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, noted that the visit aimed to provide committee members with first-hand information from various stakeholders, including the Contractor, Consultant, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ministry of Roads and Transportation, and other involved institutions.
This information is expected to help resolve controversies surrounding the project’s contract.
Dr. J. B. Koranteng-Yorke, the Project Director, briefed the committee members on the project’s background and current status, noting that 160 hectares of land are being developed to handle imports and exports from the northern parts of the country and neighboring countries.
He provided detailed updates on the development progress and future plans for the terminal.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport, Madam Mabel Sagoe, explained the termination of Ashanti Port Services’ contract, citing their failure to meet financial commitments.
“After several meetings and notices, the contract was terminated,” she revealed, agreeing to submit all necessary documents to the committee for further justification.
The project is currently being undertaken by Justmoh Construction and is about 40% complete.
Committee members expressed dissatisfaction with the project’s pace and urged the government, through the Ministry of Transport, to pay the contractor, whose Initial Production Checks (IPCs) have not been honored since November 2023.
Considering the project’s significant potential benefits, the Chairman reiterated the necessity of prompt payment to ensure timely completion.
Justice Amoh, Managing Director of Justmoh Construction, assured the committee of the company’s commitment to finishing the project by the scheduled date in 2026.
“We are dedicated to completing the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal on time,” Amoh stated confidently.
