Six pastors seek Court order to halt emergency Church congress

Six pastors of the Divine Healer’s Church are seeking a court injunction to prevent the General Overseer and five other leaders from holding an Emergency Church Congress to amend the church’s constitution.

The plaintiffs want the court to enforce a previous judgment outlining the General Overseer’s exit procedure.

Filed at the Accra High Court on June 18, 2024, the suit accuses Apostle Adade and his co-defendants of ignoring a June 6, 2023 court decision and attempting to manipulate the church’s constitution to extend their terms.

The plaintiffs—Apostle Daniel Mensah Attakpah, Rev. Philip Attakpah, Johannies Ollenu, Rev. Jonathan Nyabu, Pastor Solomon Amenyo, and Pastor Ebenezer Nartey—claim Adade is serving an unconstitutional fourth term after his second term ended in 2011.

The plaintiffs allege an unconstitutional College of Apostles declared, without election, that the Holy Spirit directed Adade to remain in office.

“He who is against the Holy Spirit should stand up,” was announced to the Congress, they assert. They also allege proposed amendments to raise the retirement age to 70 and allow current leaders to serve an additional three years.

The pastors argue that the defendants have hijacked church activities, forming a leadership team intent on maintaining their positions for life, creating an atmosphere of fear among members who are intimidated and scared of retaliation.
