The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has directed the ADHOC Committee investigating the leaked tape allegedly plotting to oust the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to complete its work.
This comes after the committee submitted a report that lacked consensus among its members.
Chairman of the Committee, Samuel Atta-Akyea, revealed that there was division over the findings and recommendations of the report, with some members opposing it despite having signed the document.
Vice Chairman James Agalga, however, argued that the report represented the unanimous verdict of the voting members, dismissing the chairman’s refusal to sign as inconsequential.
During a parliamentary session on Thursday, July 4, 2024, Speaker Bagbin suspended further deliberations on the matter, urging the committee members to resolve their differences and finalize the report.
The committee’s report cited COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Lysander Asare, and Superintendent Gyebi for professional misconduct and referred two of them to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for lying during their testimony.
