A stray dog limped into a vet’s clinic by himself and asked for help by offering his injured paw for inspection.
CCTV footage taken from the surgery in the Brazilian municipality of Juazeiro do Norte shows the animal hobbling in through the doorway and sitting down by a wall on March 6.
He is soon spotted by one of the vets, who steps out from behind the counter and goes to check him over.
After showing her his paw he waits patiently as the medic goes to alert colleagues of the wound, before following her into a consultation room.
Further examinations revealed the dog actually had a cancerous tumour.
Vet Dayse Silva believes the stray dog may have entered the clinic because it sniffed out the presence of other animals there and was seeking companionship.
She told local media: ‘It arrived quietly, showed its paw, and I went there to see what was going on and I immediately realised that it had bleeding in the penile region, but there was a much bigger problem that we only diagnosed later.
‘It has a transmissible venereal tumour, common in stray animals. It also had an injury caused by a stuck nail.’
