The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reached out to the family of Lois Abena Korateng, a 24-year-old woman who tragically died in a swimming pool in Takoradi.
Dr. Dampare made a phone call to apologize for the insufficient police engagement regarding the investigation into her death.
A statement by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, confirmed the IGP’s assurance that the investigation is still ongoing.
Dr. Dampare also expressed the police’s readiness to visit the family at their convenience to provide updates on the case.
“Police will continue to work closely with the family as the investigation into the incident continues,” the statement added.
On 8th June 2024, the police received a report that Lois had been found unconscious in a swimming pool at a hotel in Takoradi. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Initial investigations included a visit to the scene and an inspection of the body, which showed no signs of assault.
An autopsy conducted the same day identified the cause of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.
Lois, a Petroleum Engineering graduate from KNUST, had checked into the hotel with her boss and the company driver.
She was found dead in the pool the following morning, with no visible injuries.
Her family, convinced she was murdered, is demanding a thorough investigation into her death.
