Nananom of the Techiman Traditional Council in the Bono East Region has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to announce the official Techiman South Constituency Parliamentary Election results. They expressed concern that the prolonged delay is heightening anxiety and tension among residents.
The collation process was disrupted when thugs attacked the collation center, vandalizing the premises and burning ballot papers and electoral materials. This violent act prevented the Returning Officer from declaring the final results.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ohene Ameyaw Palace, Ɔyeadeɛyie Assah Akompanin, the Kyidomhene of Techiman, on behalf of the Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Takyi Fri II, revealed that EC officials had informed them that most pink sheets were retrieved after the attack.
They called for an immediate continuation of the collation process and the prompt declaration of results.
Ɔyeadeɛyie Assah Akompanin also urged the youth not to resort to violence or target government institutions. He called on security agencies to expedite investigations, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the attack at the collation center.
Similarly, the Concerned Youth of Techiman held a press conference urging residents to remain calm. However, they warned of street protests if the EC continues delaying the parliamentary election results. Ransford Asafo-Adjei, the group’s convener, addressed the media, expressing their readiness to demonstrate if necessary.
