In the Bono East Region, a significant dispute has arisen as the Nkoranza Traditional Council, led by the Omanhene and President of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, has vehemently opposed recent actions by the Mo Paramount Stool.
The controversy centers on the Mo Paramount Stool’s installation of a new chief and its claims to certain lands, including the well-known Kintampo Falls and Yam Market.
Nana Kwame Baffoe IV has labeled these actions as unlawful, sparking a heated debate over traditional authority and territorial rights.
The heart of the conflict lies in the Mo Paramount Stool’s appointment of a new chief, designated as the Sompahene of the Mo Traditional Area, who is also expected to assume the role of Kintampohene.
The Nkoranza Traditional Council asserts that this move is an encroachment on lands traditionally recognized as part of the Nkoranza Stool.
For centuries, these lands have been acknowledged and respected, and any attempt to alter this arrangement is seen as a direct challenge to the Nkoranza authority.
Adding to the complexity of the issue is the fact that there is already a recognized Kintampohene, Nana Awiti Kuffour, who has been faithfully performing his customary duties since 1973.
The Nkoranza Traditional Council argues that the installation of a new chief in this role is not only unnecessary but also invalid.
They maintain that Nana Awiti Kuffour’s long-standing service should not be undermined by the Mo Paramount Stool’s recent actions, which they view as overstepping traditional boundaries.
Nana Kwame Baffoe IV has called on the Mo Paramount Stool to respect the established territorial boundaries and to cease making further claims to lands historically belonging to the Nkoranza Traditional Area.
He emphasizes the importance of maintaining harmony and respecting long-held agreements to prevent further conflict.
The Nkoranza Traditional Council remains firm in its stance, seeking to ensure that their lands and traditional rights are preserved against what they consider unwarranted and unlawful claims.
