Traditional leaders in Sefwi Asawinso, Western North Region, have issued a stern warning to grave looters who have reportedly invaded local cemeteries.

Led by Queenmother Nana Ama Akyine, Abusuapani Kofi Nkrumah, and Chief Linguist Okyeame Gyasi, the leaders performed rituals, including prayers and libations, calling upon the local gods to punish those responsible for these desecrations.

In a statement to journalists, Nana Ama Akyine revealed that their visit to the cemetery uncovered over 30 looted graves.

Disturbingly, parts of the deceased’s bodies were missing, fueling suspicions that the looting is linked to ritualistic activities.

The Queenmother emphasized the community’s plea for the looters to cease their actions or face severe consequences from both the gods and the community’s ancestral spirits.

The Queenmother also mentioned that additional measures are being planned to prevent further incidents. Expressing disbelief and horror, she questioned why the perpetrators left the skulls behind, underscoring the sacrilege of their actions.

She affirmed that security would be increased to monitor the cemeteries, with anyone caught facing legal repercussions.

Abusuapani Kofi Nkrumah echoed the sentiment, stating the community would not tolerate these criminal acts. He confirmed plans to deploy security to safeguard the cemetery.

Additionally, Assembly member Adu Stephen announced his intention to inform the Sefwi Asawinso District Police Commander, expressing confidence that the police would assist in preventing further grave looting.
